MARCH ARTIST OF THE MONTH-SABRINA CARPENTER

From Meeting The World To Writing Emails We Can’t Send With Sabrina Carpenter

She was an it girl then & she’s an even bigger it girl now. Sabrina Carpenter has made a huge name for herself throughout the entertainment industry proving she not only has the face but the vocals, dance moves, and determination to make her dreams come true.

We’ve seen Sabrina practically grow up before our very eyes. From watching her act to her smooth transition into music. Get to know our popstar-it girl, Sabrina Carpenter.

Sabrina Annlynn Carpenter was born on May 11, 1999, in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania to Elizabeth & David Carpenter. They had two other daughters named Sarah who was their oldest then Shannon who was the youngest. The Carpenter family was a musically inclined family & loved the arts.

This caused Sabrina to constantly be exposed to a wide range of artistic influences during her childhood. From practically the womb, Sabrina knew she wanted to be in the spotlight, and at just a young age, she was already showing signs of being a gifted child who was going to make her dreams come true.

Just at the age of two, she was singing her tiny heart out to her family. Not too long after, she began to act in local theater productions. Along with singing & acting, she was beginning to be trained in different styles of dance including ballet, jazz, and tap. Just as a child, Sabrina was practically able to do it all. She was a triple threat.

She was constantly & consistently practicing. Whether it was singing, dancing, acting, or all three, she never stopped until she felt she perfected her craft. She was singing covers on Youtube & she even entered a singing contest, hosted by Miley Cyrus, where she won third place. Sabrina was a little girl with a big dream and with her family’s support, no one was about to stop this soon-to-be pop star.

Sabrina began her acting career in 2010 at the age of 11, with a guest role on NBC hit drama show “Law & Order: SVU“. She then landed another role which helped push her career in 2013 on Fox‘s short-lived comedy “The Goodwin Games”, where she became a series regular for the episodes that did aire. From there, she started getting small roles on Disney Channel in shows such as “Phineas & Ferb”, “Austin & Ally”, and “Orange Is The New Black” on Netflix.

Then two years later in 2013, she landed the role that we all discovered her for. Which was the role of Maya Hart the best friend of Riley Matthews, played by Rowan Blanchard, on the hit Disney Channel show Girl Meets World, the spinoff of the ’90s sitcom Boy Meets World.

Just a year after landing the Disney Channel role, Sabrina released her first-ever EP titled, “Can’t Blame A Girl For Trying” under Disney’s record label. The following year she released her debut studio album titled “Eyes Wide Open”, which featured one of her singles, “We’ll Be The Stars”, which peaked at number 43 on the Billboard 200. Then it was almost as if Sabrina couldn’t be stopped as she kept making music & taking on different roles/projects.

Sabrina’s single “Thumbs” became her first gold-certified single in the United States. Soon after, she worked with The Vamps & Mike Perry to release a track titled “Hands” & right after she released her own single “Why” while going on to headline her “The De-Tour” concert tour.

Sabrina didn’t stop there. In 2016 she released her second studio album titled “Evolution” with her hit single “Thumbs” along with her songs “On Purpose” and “Why“. Then in 2018, she released her third studio album titled “Singular: Act ł” with her single that year “Sue Me” and her song “Almost Love“. Sabrina loved making music so much that by the following year in 2019, she released her fourth studio album titled “Singular: Act łł” featuring her singles “Pushing 20” & “Exhale“. But she also loved acting so much that she decided to book a few roles such as her role in “The Hate U Give” and “The Short History Of The Long Road“.

Later in 2019, Sabrina decided to start retaking a few more acting roles when she landed the role of Harper Kreyman on Netflix’s film, “Tall Girl”. Before the world shutdown in 2020, Sabrina landed the role of Cady Heron on the Broadway musical, “Mean Girls”. She performed alongside Reneé Rapp as the infamous Regina George and Krystina Alabado as Gretchen Wieners, but unfortunately, she had only two live performances with the cast. Later that year, she went on to film Netflix’s musical film, “Work It”, and Disney+ musical film, “Clouds”.

When the world shut down, it was harder for everyone to navigate how to stay home & live everyday life with so many restrictions. But Sabrina was always committed to any online press junkets along with having a bigger social media presence to stay close to her fans due to the restrictions. She used social media to her advantage not only staying close to her fans & promoting her projects at the time, but also to advocate for change politically and to amplify other voices in times of need.

In 2021, Sabrina somehow caught herself in a love triangle following the release of Olivia Rodrigo’s hit single “Drivers License” in late January of that year. The rumors all started with a line in Olivia’s song, “And you’re probably with that blonde girl, who’s always made me doubt, she’s so much older than me“, which people noticed that Olivia had originally sung brunette instead of blonde in a video that she had posted a while before teasing the song. Many believe that the song is directed towards her rumored ex-boyfriend and Sabrina’s rumored boyfriend at the time, Joshua Bassett.

Then soon after, Sabrina released her single “Skin” in response to Olivia’s song. In “Skin” she sings about how she wishes she could have been friends with Olivia but as of that moment, she was satisfied just telling her side of the story. “I was just coming from a place as a 21-year-old that is navigating her feelings and was through a lot in my personal life”, she told James Corden when she appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden, The recurring theme was I was allowing people to get under my skin. I wrote from that place of knowing that there were so many different experiences that will continue to happen to me in my life where I kind of have to remind myself that people can only get you if you allow them to and you give them that access to“.

Later that year, Sabrina told Variety that she released the song coming from the most honest side of her because she was in a situation she just unfortunately couldn’t ignore. “So yeah, the internet has definitely f*cked some sh*t up. It’s such a waste of time [to explain the meaning] because you’ll never know the truth. That’s the fun part of it, I guess. But at the same time, there are real people. I will say, that’s the hardest thing, trying to be truthful to yourself, make art that feels real & exciting, but then knowing that [you’re writing] about humans going through what we’re all going through on a daily basis”.

After releasing her following single “Skinny Dipping“, she was more private than ever. At the beginning of the following year, she began filming for the movies “Emergency” and “Tall Girl 2“. The superstar did not stop there & released yet another single titled “Fast Times“.

Then on social media, Sabrina announced that she would be releasing her new & fifth studio album, “Email I Can’t Send“, which would be released on July 15, 2022. Following her announcement, she released her third single from the unreleased album, “Vicious“.

Two months following the release of her album, Sabrina embarked on her fourth tour, the Emails I Can’t Send Tour. Within the day that the tickets went on sale for the tour, it had sold out. All 62 shows in North & South America and Europe. The tour started on September 29, 2022, and ended on June 27, 2023.

Not too long before Sabrina’s tour ended, she announced she was going to be opening for another tour with one of the artists she admires & looks up to the most, Taylor Swift. She expressed in the announcement how much of a dream come true it was for her to have the opportunity. With each show done, Sabrina would not only always show gratitude to the people in attendance, but she would come up with different witty outros at the end of her hit song, “Nonsense“.

With her catchy wity outros, charm, stage presence, style, beauty and so much more, she’s on the clear path to superstar status. This year, she had the opportunity to participate in her first-ever Coachella performance right when she announced her single, “Espresso” which she also performed on the Coachella stage.

Sabrina not only sings, dances, and acts but she also advocates through both her platform and her actions, using her voice to raise awareness about social issues and promote positive change. Through her music, interviews, and social media presence, Sabrina addresses topics such as mental health awareness, body positivity, LGBTQ+ rights, and racial justice. She uses her platform to amplify marginalized voices and engage with her audience on important issues. Sabrina also participates in various advocacy campaigns, charity events, and fundraisers to support causes she believes in.
