If you know me, you know I am OBSESSED with anything & everything Nessa Barrett. So it’s only right I make her the very first artist of the month, duh !

Nessa Barrett is starting to take the industry by storm and it’s only a matter of time before she starts headlining arenas & making a bigger name for herself than she already has. Let’s get to know Nessa & her story.

Janessa Jaida Barrett was born on August 6, 2002 in Galloway, New Jersey. Nessa unfortunately moved around South Jersey making it hard for her to make & keep friends. Nessa never felt as if she ever fit in considering her & her family were the only hispanic family living in their small town while living in an apartment with her single mother and siblings.

This life experience unfortunately started some bullying which caused her to hate school. The only thing that kept her in school was the fact that she played soccer & knew it would at least get her into college. But she always found the light at the end of those dark tunnels, which was music. Nessa loved playing soccer, but not as much as she loved making music.

Since I could walk and talk, I was writing and singing,” She once told The Honey Pop. Since her father already had a deep love & connection with music, Nessa practically had music flowing through her blood. She was able to sing & write songs at such a young age. But she never knew what to do with music or if she’ll even be successful. Then came the app we all know & love, Tiktok.

Nessa didn’t think to start posting on the viral app until her little sister gave her the idea to. From there she would post videos lip syncing to any sound & even posting a few covers here & there.

But unfortunately with her new online presence, always came the online bullies and sometimes those bullies were even at her school which made her school experience worse than it already was. She spoke about her experience on “The Zach Sang Show” and said, “As soon as I got over that like, 100K, like, followers mark, everyone at school just started, like, hating me.”

Her videos soon enough started becoming even more viral with up to almost a million views. At just 17 years old in 2019, Nessa ran away to the one place everyone goes to seek fame, Hollywood & Los Angeles.

When arriving in Los Angeles, Nessa immediately started collaborating with other social media stars such as Addison Rae, Mads Lewis, Cooper Noiegra and so much more.

She loved doing it at the time being, but she always felt as if she was trying to be someone she’s not. “At first, I definitely tried hard to fit in and be the person everyone wanted me to be.”, she once told The Honey Pot.

And almost always, with the bright side of all the Los Angeles lifestyle she was chasing & hoping to have, comes a dark side. “I saw a lot of people lose themselves to a lot of crazy stuff.” She said in a interview with Nylon.

Even with all of her videos doing better than ever & her continous growth of followers, Nessa knew in her heart that she truly wanted to do music. She wanted to be able to tell her stories in a way she’s able to reflect about her life & everything that has happened to her. That’s why all her songs are so personal to her because she’s been through every lyric she writes & sings so to Nessa, she’s being more vulnerable than ever.

When she is going through a rough time, to the studio she goes because even as a kid the music studio is where Nessa felt the most at home.

Music is way more than just her job, it’s her life it’s her everything. Which is why she sometimes struggles to decide whether if she should put out music SHE wants to or want other people want her to. But at the end of it, she knew she didn’t want to be doing music if she wasn’t telling her story.

Yet again, with all the good things of fame come the bad things. Nessa’s personal mental & physical struggles was something she never shied away from sharing with the public. On “Call Her Daddy”, she talks about the times she was continuously misdiagnosed with depression starting at the age of 14. She said that although her parents got her some help, sometimes they were dismissed because at the time her family was apart of a religious community that would look over mental issues with the simple solution of prayers.

Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst at 14 when she attempted to take her own life with the medicine they gave her for her concussions which was the cause of her accident. Her concussions made her feel even worse about herself. But fortunately Nessa was taken to the hospital in time where she was later entered into a psychiatric facility where she received the help she needed at the time.

Finally at age 18, she was properly diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Nessa also writes about the struggles she has with severe body image issues along with eating disorders. She has struggled with anorexia since she was a child but sadly got worse when her fame started to rise. At some point she has even admitted to turning to substance abuse for a time in order to maintain the “ideal” body people wanted her to have.

After many struggles with her body image & anorexia, Nessa is now on the road to recovery because she knows the only way to acheive her dream is to be in her best shape mentally & physically.

In 2020, she released her first single “Pain” with Warner Records after they discovered her from her singing Tiktoks. Nessa later on went to record two more single that year. One was called “If U Love Me” & a more dark version of the song “Santa Baby”.

In February 2021, she released one of her most popular songs “La Di Die” featuring her former boyfriend, Jaden Hossler and was produced by the one & only Travis Barker. Then in June of that same year, she released yet another single called “Counting Crimes”. Then soon after in the fall, she released her first EP titled “Pretty Poison” that contains seven songs.

In February 2022, she released a single titled “Dying On The Inside”, where she sings about living with her eating disorder all while being in the spotlight.

In the process of recording & writing for her very first album, Nessa went through the unimaginable and something that no person should ever have to feel or deal with. She lost her best friend Cooper Noiegra to a fatal overdose.

Nessa was beyond devastated. That was her other half who she did practically everything with. They even have matching tattoos together. They understood each like no one else would. She was beyond consolable that she attempted to take her own life again in an effort to be with her best friend. Fortunately yet again, she had people around her who got to her right way and helped her seek treatment again. During this difficult time, Nessa turned to God. Not only to have some type of faith but also because before Coopers passing, he would always send her voice memos telling her that he will pray for her & that he is waiting for her to accept him.

In honor of his passing, Nessa released her first single of her new album titled “Die First”, which was Cooper’s favorite song off the album. In the song she wrote about the heartbreaking thoughts of even just thinking of losing the ones you love.

She relased two more singles by the name of “Madhouse” & “Tired Of California”. And finally after three or four painful months Nessa was able to release her first studio album,“Young Forever”.

She was receiving amazing feedback in numbers and in her fanbase. So she released the deluxe version a month later. That same year she announced her first ever tour “The Young Forever Tour”, which kicked off in Phoenix, Arizona in February 2023. After 23 shows touring all over America & Europe, Nessa still wasn’t done in 2023.

Later that year she released three more singles, two while on tour, titled “Bang Bang, Lie, and American Jesus”. Then soon after her tour ended, she released her second EP “Hell Is A Teenage Girl” in July of 2023.

Nessa then released three more singles, “Sick of Myself, Club Heaven, and Girl In New York”. She released one of the songs while on her second tour ever, “The Church Club For The Lonely Tour”. “Club Heaven” has been a while in the making but Nessa never felt comfortable putting it out until she knew she was ready to perform it every night because sometimes, she still has difficulty performing “Die First”. But thankfully, she was strong enough to release it and perform it on tour.

With both tours combined, Nessa has played a total of 48 shows all in one year along with many releases. Our baby cowboy can do it all.

Whether you know her through her fashion sense, her music, her videos, or even me, you know Nessa Barrett is ready to take the whole world & music industry by the reigns and make it her own. No one can deny, that Nessa is one of the most dedicated & hardworking artist we all know & love today.
