Cristina Martinez is a woman of many talents & hobbies. If you know her, she is never still and always on the move (even though she needs a break sometimes). But although we may know her for many things, she is a hairstylist at heart. I had a chance to catch up with the lovely Cristina and give you a closer look at the face behind NinabyCristinaMartinez.
Tell us who you are & what you do
My names Cristina Martinez, and I’m currently going to school for cosmetology. But i’ve been Exec. Hair assistant for 2 years and counting!
Tell us about your business
I started assisting right out of high school but only recently started cosmo school due to covid. But I do offer styling and wash & blowouts currently and am starting to slowly take color clients!

What got you into that line of business ?
My now boss posted she needed an assistant and i reached out to her & got the job, fell in love with it and it’s been like that ever since!
What’s your favorite part about it ?
The relationships you make with clients. Clientele relationships have been a huge part to me, and allowing people to be so open with me and being able to get them feeling not only their best but elevate their confidence.
What are some pros & cons to your business ?
Being able to create your own schedule is a huge plus, as well as choosing your own clientele. Some cons would be sometimes the longer hours and sometimes not being able to sit down to eat lunch etc but it gets easier in finding time as well to make sure you are also staying hydrated.

What are some difficulties you face in owning a business ?
At first finding and building clientele is hard. Especially with newer clients, gaining trust especially with someone’s hair is difficult but once you do gain trust the rest goes smoothly. And usually your work speaks for yourself but also word of mouth from clientele will help you gain !
Any tips for other small business owners or anyone that wants to pursue the same thing as you ?
Allow yourself to assist and soak up as much knowledge from other people as you can. Assisting has allowed me to use different techniques from different people to style or even blow dry wash etc more efficiently.
