For my first interview, I had the opportunity to ask Sarah a few questions about her photography, the ups & down to her passion and more. Unfortunately our schedules heavily collided but she still made time to answer my questions which makes her even more amazing.
Tell us about yourself ! It’s okay to brag
Hi! I’m Sarah Cisneros and I’m 19. I’m currently in my second year at Cal State Fullerton, studying cinema and television studies. I also have my own photography business that I have had for about 2 solid years now. I photograph anything from sports to families to birthdays and graduations. Not only do I have my own business but I also photograph and occasionally do some videography for the Cal State Fullerton’s D1 baseball team. Working for this team has been an absolute dream come true, it’s been such an amazing opportunity.
Why or how did photography come about for you ?
My freshman year of high school I began to gain curiosity for cameras and photography so I asked my parents if they could buy me a camera and they did. From then I began to teach myself the ins and outs of a camera and taking pictures. I did fun shoots for many friends and family to gain practice and experience and this was very helpful.

How does photography translate into what you’re studying ?
Photography is something that has helped a lot with what I am studying because it has always sort of had me set on what I want to do. Therefore since I did photography from before college I went into college knowing what I wanted to do and was never really confused at all.
What do you ultimately want to do with photography & your major ?
With photography and my major I would love to become an MLB photographer. My goal is to really practice and perfect my craft within the next few years with the team I am with now and find more opportunities from there.
Did you ever think you would be photographing sports ? If not, what do you would’ve been doing ?
Honestly, I never really thought I would be photographing sports until I actually started with CSUF baseball. If I wasn’t shooting sports I would probably still be doing graduations, birthdays, and families.

What are some things you love about photography & what are your pet peeves about it ?
I love photography so much it genuinely is something that has made me so happy. My favorite part is having a shoot and getting to see the outcome of the photos. It is also such a rewarding feeling when the people I shot see the pictures and they are in love with them. I also love the fact that I have all the creative freedom in the world when it comes to my personal photography and it is so fun to try new things and see things from my own perspective. Some of my pet peeves in photography are when people try to rush their pictures or want them the day the shoot is done. I also really dislike when people add filters or try to edit pictures that I have taken the time to edit. It also tends to get difficult when people don’t agree with pricing because it feels like you are belittling my work.
Have you ever had a bad experience that made you second guess photography ?
I’m so grateful to say that so far *knock on wood* I have yet to have a bad experience with my business or photography in general. The only thing that occasionally does get tough is when people post my pictures and do not give me credit for them but nothing terrible thankfully.
How, when, and why did you start doing photography professionally ?
I started doing photography professionally when I started my business two years ago. The reason I decided to do it professionally was because I started doing more and more shoots for different people and I felt that I could really make a business out of it.

Who’s your biggest supporter and how have they been supporting you ?
I have so many huge supporters I can’t even just mention one person. Starting off with both my parents they are so supportive with this being my only job and they’re always so helpful, if it weren’t for my dad I would’ve never even gotten my first camera. My mom sits and helps me choose photos after a shoot no matter how many I show her and they always give me the best constructive criticism. More of my family have also supported me by booking shoots and taking time out of their busy lives and letting me practice with them. So many of my close friends also continuously book shoots for them or their families and recommend me to people they know, ultimately just keeping me busy.
What’s one thing you wish you can capture & why ?
One thing I wish to capture one day is a Dodgers vs. Angels game at Dodger stadium because it is truly my dream to work for an MLB team, especially my dream and favorite team.

Describe your style
I would say my style varies completely on occasion, place, & weather! I love clothes & I’m never really scared to try something new, I love a clean classy look but I’ll never mind some cowgirl boots & a sundress!
What’s a beauty product you can’t live without ?
A beauty product i cant live without is my Loreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara, if my lashes look pretty then I feel pretty!
What’s your ideal night out ?
My ideal night out is getting dressed up with my girls and finding a cute restaurant & picture spot & ofc (“of f*cking course” for you geezers) cant forget a yummy dessert at the end of the night!
What are some tips you have for other pursuing photography ?
For anyone looking to pursue photography my biggest piece of advice is never give up! Everything is trial and error, don’t get discouraged at the end of the day, it’s your own creativity and you can do anything you want with it. Never let anyone put your work down because you are creating art, be proud of yourself and never be scared to try new things, take criticism into consideration, it’ll only help you grow!
What’s one thing you’re looking forward to in 2024 ?
One thing im looking forward to in 2024 is traveling, I hope I can go on as many trips as possible this year & just make so many memories with those that I love!
